The Indonesian government recently announced that it has withdrawn the new tax law set for e-commerce businesses that was originally planned to take effect in April 1 this year, the Reuters reported on March 30. The new tax law initially required all e-commerce businesses, including local ones such as Tokopedia and Bukalapak, to share their data such as tax numbers and trade transactions with the tax authorities such as the Finance Ministry to create the equality between conventional and e-commerce businesses in terms of taxation. However, the new e-commerce tax law has been recalled due to too much noise that has caused the public confusion. Sellers at online marketplaces, however, are still required to pay the same taxes as conventional ones.
